Max is the founder and editor-in-chief of QBR: The Black Book Review, and the founder of the Harlem Book Fair.  Max was not pleased at the lack of visibility by authors of African descent in the mainstream media (TV, newspapers, retail stores), so he started QBR as a print publication in 1998  In 2001, Max took things one step further and founded the Harlem Book Fair, which is now over thirteen years old and has expanded from a one-day event to a three-day event. The Harlem Book Fair occurs every year in partnership with C-Span’s BookTV, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Columbia University, and T-Mobile.

A native of Brooklyn, NY, he lives in Westchester Country, NY with his wife and son.
